Ocak başında Akademi'nin Görsel Efekt Bölümünün üyeleri bu listeyi 7 adaya indirecekler. 20 Ocak'a kadar bu üyeler, yedi filmin her birinden 15'er dakikalık birer bölüm izleyip törene kalacak 5 adayı belirleyecekler. Oscar adaylarının tam listesi 25 Ocak'ta açıklanacak. Ödül töreni ise 27 Şubat'ta, Kodak Theater'da gerçekleşecek.
